Restore Process

I would like to take this opportunity to give you insight into the extent and quality of the rework and refinish done to all of the pianos I sell and ship.

All grands are completely disassembled when they arrive in the workshop. I divide the rework process into several parts and outsource most of the work to a number of highly specialized firms well known for their sustained quality and highest quality artwork. Cases and sound boards are repaired and refinished by a company which rebuilds several hundred pianos each year. Actions and keyboards are reworked and finished by a German piano building workshop, specializing in such repairs on all leading European brands, such as Steinway, Boesendorfer, Bechstein, Bluethner. By doing the renovation processes this way, the best results at an affordable price are achieved.

Rebuilding and renovation always include the following:

Case renovation

• including replacement of broken or missing parts, re-finishing of all metal parts (replacing those parts if necessary), applying multi-layer lacquer (standard – Polyester high gloss). On request, we can offer any case finish, including new veneer, Shellac finish, and a variety of others.

Sound Board

• repairing the sound board after at least 10 – 12 days of heating and drying the board, reworking or replacing the treble and bass bridge, bleaching and re-painting the board, installing new felts, printing a new manufacturer’s logo on the board. We also replace the pin blocks (Delignit) on at least 90% of all instruments.
Frame – completely removing the old lacquer, treating of the raw frame material, applying new bronze lacquer and transparent lacquer finish.

Re-stringing – using new Roeslau strings

• Action – carefully reworking all wooden and metal parts (with no exception), replacing missing or broken parts, re-regulating the action is done by well experienced German experts. If necessary – or on request by the customer – complete replacement of the action (using new Renner actions). All pianos get new Abel or Renner hammers and all new felts, leathers, etc.

Keyboard

• carefully reworking all wooden and metal parts, bleaching the ivory or, if necessary, replacing using new plexi surfaces, installing all new felts and/or leather parts.

Final regulating and tuning

• done in a German piano workshop, including reinstallation of all renovated components, regulating of all parts, completely revoicing the instrument and retuning (at least five times).

All of the above reworking steps are done to all of our instruments. In addition, I also offer extended services such as replacing old Viennese actions with new English (Renner/Langer) actions, making new legs, lyres, or case ornaments in any style.
